COVID-19 Update September 25

Total: 323 confirmed cases in Salem
1 out of every 91 Salem residents have been infected

It looks like there may have been an error in reporting Salem’s cases, as cumulative cases shouldn’t go down. We heard a rumor that there was a new case at Salemhaven, and then a correction that this was a false positive. That might account for this drop in our cumulative cases.
We’ve been told that there was a 4^th case in Salem High, and they were in school on Thursday. Where is this student showing up in the State’s statistics, both for Salem’s overall count or Salem’s school dashboard? I don’t know, but I sure don’t see it.
44 more people in NH were diagnosed with COVID-19. The daily average for the past week is 32 cases per day.
NH DHHS reported that today’s testing data “includes test conducted by the University of New Hampshire laboratory and its contracted testing laboratory.” In yesterday’s press conference they said it would take another two weeks to connect UNH’s data to the DHHS website.
Today, DHHS reported 16,832 negative tests.
NH has now returned results for ¼ million negative tests.
Active cases continue to yoyo around 300. On Sept 8 we were down to 236. Today we again have over 300 cases for the fourth time since that date.
Something is going on in Rochester. In 8 days, they have gone from less than 5 active cases to 22.
Today, NH DHHS reported in their press release that 9 kids under 18 were infected. Per NH DHHS’s dashboard, there were 2 children aged 0-9 that were infected, and there were 10 young adults, aged 20-29, who were infected. For the third time in five days, the total count of kids aged 10-19 has gone down.
Schools with active or recovered cases:
No preschool. 14 elementary schools (+2). 4 middle schools. 12 high schools. 12 Colleges/Universities.
- The numbers for Salem students remain unchanged (1 active case, even though we know of four Salem High students that have been infected.)
- There are now more elementary schools that have had COVID infections than colleges, although the colleges tend to have a wider spread.
- UNH-Durham now has 44 active cases — up 8 from yesterday. They also have 86 recovered students, up two from yesterday. They have 1 cluster, but do not have a current outbreak.
There were two more people that were hospitalized with COVID-19 today. 19 patients are hospitalized in NH, an increase of three from yesterday. The daily average of new hospital patients has gone up by 1.3 people per day over the last week. On Sept 12, we were down to 12 NH patients. We need to look back to August 1, to find a day when we had more hospitalized patients than we have today.
There have been no new COVID-19-related deaths in NH in the past 10 days.

These are not simply numbers. We must not forget that these are all someone’s husband or wife, mother or father, sister or brother, son or daughter, friend or neighbor.

There are some nights that I’d like to get to bed without finishing my update. This is one of them. With the coming of another weekend, it reminds me of how fast time is flying: It feels like I’m always telling you to have a good weekend. Please do!
