Total: 327 confirmed cases in Salem
1 out of every 90 Salem residents have been infected

There were 36 new people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the State today, but unfortunately, for the second day in a row, two Salem residents were amongst them.
The community with the biggest increase of total cases is Nashua, with 7 more people with infections. Merrimack and Salem each had two new cases.
With the addition of Rindge, today there are 17 communities with more than five active cases. Two days ago that count was only 12 communities.
The positivity rate today was 1.91%, the same as the one-week daily average.
Today, NH DHHS reported in their press release that 4 more kids under 18 were infected. Per NH DHHS’s dashboard, there were 2 children aged 0-9 that were infected, and there were 6 kids aged 10-19. The age range with the most new infections today (10) were those young adults aged 20-29. The other age ranges had three or four new diagnoses, there were no people aged 80+ who were infected today.
Active cases are now 339, the highest they’ve been since September 1; we are adding new cases faster than the old cases are recovering.
One more Granite Stater resident was hospitalized with COVID-19, but the number of patients did drop from 20 down to 16.
No one died in NH in the 24-hours covered by this update, for the second day in a row.

I have been told that there are multiple custodians in the Bedford, NH School District who have recently been diagnosed with COVID. (I don’t see this in the news, so I can’t verify it). What will that school system do?
A member of the staff at Concord High School was diagnosed with COVID. The protocol there is that any student or staffers who has had close contact with the employee (6 feet for more than 10 minutes), will be asked to get tested and to self-quarantine at home for 14 days after their last possible exposure … even if the tests come back negative.
Schools with active or recovered cases:
- No preschool. 15 elementary schools (9 schools with active cases; 10 students total). 6 middle schools (4 with active cases, 4 students). 15 high schools (+1; 6 with active cases, 8 students). 12 Colleges/Universities (6 with active cases; three with one student, one with three and one with four students. UNH-Durham has 42 active cases, 95 recovered).
- The numbers for Salem students remain unchanged (1 active case, even though we know of four Salem High students that have been infected.)
The State’s school dashboard is only reporting students and staff who have been infected while in school. They are not reporting teachers and students who were infected outside of the school setting. That makes sense, right?!?

These are not simply numbers. We must not forget that these are all someone’s husband or wife, mother or father, sister or brother, son or daughter, friend or neighbor.

One of the symptoms of COVID-19 is fatigue. That’s not to be confused with “COVID-19 Fatigue.” That’s fatigue from COVID vs. fatigue of COVID. Most of us are long past being tired of COVID-19. We are getting sloppy, and letting down our guard. Unfortunately, COVID-19 isn’t tired. It is patient, and will seek out its victims when they least expect it. Please stay safe, and always, be kind.
