COVID-19 Update October 30

  • Total: 403 confirmed cases in Salem
  • 1 out of 73 Salem residents have been infected
  • Salem Today: 1 new case, 38 active cases 

Community Transmission (per NH Department of Health and Human Services)

The overall level of community transmission is defined using three metrics.  A community is then assigned an overall level based on the highest-level determination for any specific metric. The metric which is changing the most right now is the number of new cases.

  • NH Community Transmission Metrics:
    • New Cases per 100k over 14 days: 
      • Scale: Minimal: <50; Moderate: 50 – 100; Substantial: >100. 
      • Today: 1,386 cases; Daily average: 102.2 (SUBSTANTIAL)
    • New hospitalizations per 100k over 14 days:
      • Scale: Minimal: <10; Moderate: 10 – 20; Substantial: >20, 
      • Today: Total hospitalizations: 15 total; Daily average: 1.1%
    • Average PCR Test Positivity Rate over 7 days:

  • Changes to New Cases per 100K for NH, all counties, and our two largest cities:
    • Manchester went down.
    • The rest of the State went up. 
    • A substantial increase was seen in Coos County, which went up by 19.  They have gone from 50.7 to 133 in five days.

  • One more Salem resident has been diagnosed with COVID-19 today. We have had 42 new cases in the past two weeks.
  • Salem now has 38 people who are considered to be infectious. This is twice as many active cases as we had just nine days ago.
  • The graph of Salem cases has been updated, below.
  • We are now down up to approximately 4,375 persons being monitored in NH. 
  • Two more people were hospitalized patients today with COVID-19. 
  • No one died in the 24-hour period covered by this report. 
  • We are averaging two hospitalizations per day, and two fatalities per day.
  • One of 125 people in NH has been infected. One out of 116 in Rockingham County has had COVID-19. And one out of 73 Salem residents has had a positive diagnosis of this virus.
  • Communities:
    • Notable changes in active cases from yesterday to today:
      • Only 6 people were reported as “recovered;” these are reflected in today’s changes. Only one of these communities has fewer active cases than yesterday. 
      • We have 16 communities with more than 20 active cases. Between them, these 16 communities have 681 active cases, accounting for 56% of all active cases. (Shown: # of active cases and change from yesterday).

We are never too old to learn.

There are some interesting charts on this website. I cover most of the raw data in my updates, but this site also includes ICU beds and ventilators. The site also includes how many people say they use masks — from June, 58%-65% of NH residents report that they usually wear masks. Also included is social distancing, based on cell phone mobility data.

However, what you might find interesting – and concerning – are the projections on these statistics. If they are right, we will be in serious trouble if we don’t smarten up.

So, let’s do better. You know the rules. Stay safe, and always, be kind.
