COVID-19 Update January 19

  • Total: 1,842 confirmed cases in Salem. 
  • Salem’s Positivity Rate for the past 2 weeks: 8.8%
  • 1 out of 16 Salem residents have been infected 
  • Salem today: 21 new cases. Yesterday there were 27 new cases.
  • 160 active cases.

On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, DHHS announced 877 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 4.9%. Today’s results include 498 people who tested positive by PCR test and 379 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 6,126 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. Of the results reported today: 

  • 1/9: 28 new cases today, for an updated total of 617 cases 
  • 1/11: 77 new cases today, for an updated total of 611 cases 
  • 1/12: 142 new cases today, for an updated total of 838 cases 
  • 1/13: 95 new cases today, for an updated total of 592 cases 
  • 1/14: 82 new cases today, for an updated total of 968 cases 
  • 1/15: 39 new cases today, for an updated total of 558 cases 
  • 1/17: 80 new cases today, for an updated total of 433 cases 
  • 1/18: 334 new cases 

Test results for previous days are still being processed and the total number of new positives for those days are not yet complete. Updated case counts for prior days will be reflected on the COVID-19 interactive dashboard.

  • New Cases per 100K over the past 14 days
    • All 10 counties and our two biggest cities are all significantly above 100 new cases, putting the State in a substantial level of community transmission, regardless of how we rank in the other two metrics.
    • New Hampshire: 689.3
    • Rockingham County: 745.9
    • Salem: 885
    • All 10 counties and our two biggest cities saw increases in this metric from yesterday to today. All except Strafford had increases in the double digits. Salem, however, had a 14 case decrease since yesterday.
  • Hospitalizations per 100K over the past 14 days
    • All 10 counties and our two biggest cities are all significantly under 10 cases, which is considered minimal. 
  • Positivity Rate over 7 days: 
    • New Hampshire: 6.9%
    • Rockingham County: 8.9%
    • Salem: 8.8%
    • Manchester: 8.6%
    • Nashua: 22.4%

  • DHHS fixed at least some of the issue with the website sometime today. I was able to grab some of yesterday’s data before they published today’s info. Hopefully, they found the error, and it won’t happen again, but I’m not holding my breath.
  • 48 more residents of Salem were diagnosed with COVID-19 yesterday and today. Yesterday, Salem and Derry both passed the 1800 mark, with Salem having slightly more cases than Derry on both days.
  • The new cases brought the ratio to 1 out of 16 Salem residents have been infected with COVID-19. We will need to add another 81 more new cases to bring the ratio down to 1:15.
  • After almost a week of a decrease in Salem’s Positivity Rate over the past two weeks increased by one full percentage point, to 8.8%.
  • Over the past two days, fourteen more people were admitted to the hospital for the first time. 69 people have been admitted since the beginning of the year.
  • Over the past two days, three more people were admitted to the ICU. NH has added 15 new ICU patients since the beginning of the year
  • NH lost another 5 people from COVID-19 during the 24-hours covered by this report. We have lost 179 people since the beginning of the new year.

  • NH DHHS reports that the new cases reside in Rockingham (248), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (157), Strafford (74), Cheshire (37), Merrimack (36), Belknap (31), Carroll (27), Grafton (25), Coos (18), and Sullivan (8) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (91) and Nashua (74). The county of residence is being determined for fifty-one new cases. 
  • Active Cases 
    • There are 14 NH communities with more than 100 active cases. Between them, these communities have 2,848 active cases, accounting for 46% of all active cases. 
    • There are 24 NH communities with more than 50 active cases. Between them, these communities have 3,542 active cases, accounting for 58% of all active cases. 
    • Five communities — Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Dover and Rochester — have more active cases than Salem. 
  • Cumulative Cases 
    • There are now 137 communities that have had 50 or more total cases, and 97 that have had 100 or more.
    • Three communities — Manchester, Nashua and Concord — have more cumulative cases than Salem.

The following video was posted almost two months ago. Things have changed in that time. On October 2, US deaths were 1,035,451, according to the video. (My records say 1,033,174 per WorldOmeter.) WorldOMeter now says the global death rate is 1,446,889, an increase of 413,715 in less than two months. Just please remember that there is a lot more between COVID->Death vs. COVID->Recovery. More and more, long-haulers are making the news, as are other consequences of COVID-19.
