COVID-19 Update February 22

  • Total: 2,326 confirmed cases in Salem. 
  • Salem’s Positivity Rate for the past 2 weeks: 6.7%
  • 1 out of every 13 Salem residents has been infected
  • Salem today: 8 new cases; 83 active cases.

On Monday, February 22, 2021, DHHS announced 252 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 6.1%. Today’s results include 168 people who tested positive by PCR test and 84 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 2,883 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. 

Several cases are still under investigation. Additional information from ongoing investigations will be incorporated into future COVID-19 updates.

  • It’s so nice to type zeros in new hospitalizations AND new deaths!
  • Projections for New Hampshire are encouraging. Massachusetts’ projections are a little more concerning. Since these projections are for the entire state, those of us who live so close to the state line must be careful to not become complacent.
  • The number of test results returned today is considerably lower than we’ve been used to. 
  • Today’s positivity rate for NH jumped up to 6.1% for the PCR tests day. (It’s unchanged from yesterday’s 4.3% for the past 7 days’ PCR and Antigen test results.)
  • Although Salem added more new cases than yesterday, the number of new cases is still in the single digits. 
  • Salem’s active cases went down again, making this the fourth day this week with numbers in the double-digit numbers. Today’s 83 is the lowest count since November 13. 
  • In the past week, NH has had 1,525 (63.8%) new cases determined by PCR tests, and 867 (36.2%) new cases determined by Antigen tests.  Today’s percentage are within 3% of the past week.
  • 34 kids under 18 (13.5%) were part of today’s 252 reported new cases.
  • 350 kids under 18 (14.6%) were part of this past week’s 2,392 new cases as reported by DHHS.
  • 309 NH people were reported as “recovered” since yesterday’s update. This is more than our new cases, so NH’s number of active cases went down by another 57 to 2,883. This is still slightly more (26 cases) than we had last Tuesday.
  • Since the last update, there have been no people who have been admitted to the hospital for the first time. 
  • The number of patients who are currently in the hospital is 109, for the third day in a row. This is the lowest we’ve had since November 20.
  • For the first second time in the past week, we have one more person who has been admitted to the ICU.
  • No one died in NH from COVID since the last update. It’s been over a month since we had a day with no deaths.

  • NH DHHS reports that the new cases reside in Rockingham (49), Strafford (38), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (36), Cheshire (30), Merrimack (17), Grafton (13), Carroll (7), Coos (7), Sullivan (3), and Belknap (2) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (23) and Nashua (12). The county of residence is being determined for fifteen new cases.

NH Communities with more than 50 cumulative cases.

The following video was posted almost two months ago. Things have changed in that time. On October 2, US deaths were 1,035,451, according to the video. (My records say 1,033,174 per WorldOmeter.) WorldOMeter now says the global death rate is 1,446,889, an increase of 413,715 in less than two months. Just please remember that there is a lot more between COVID->Death vs. COVID->Recovery. More and more, long-haulers are making the news, as are other consequences of COVID-19.
