COVID-19 Update 29 April 2021

  • Total: 2,873 confirmed cases in Salem
  • Salem today: 6 new cases since yesterday
  • 47 active cases 
  • 1 out of every 10 Salem residents has been infected
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K for 14 days: 280
  • Salem’s Positivity Rate for the past 2 weeks: 4.9%

Yesterday’s press release from DHHS was eventually released. Today it was there as expected, although there were minor changes in the format, and they did not include all the data that they have been sharing routinely for ages.

Today, there is no daily PCR positivity rate, and no way of computing it, since they also removed the number of persons tested. Several other numbers are also AWOL: Persons with specimens submitted to NH PHL, and tests pending at NH PH, although they aren’t numbers that I regularly report on. (In the late report from yesterday they shared that 909 tests were pending … up from 280 the previous day, and from the one-week average of 417. It’s the highest in a month and a half … and that concerns me. WHERE IS THE TRANSPARENCY???

On Thursday, April 29, 2021, DHHS announced 298 new positive test results for COVID-19. Today’s results include 227 people who tested positive by PCR test and 71 who tested positive by antigen test. There are now 2,610 current COVID-19 cases diagnosed in New Hampshire. 

Several cases are still under investigation. Additional information from ongoing investigations will be incorporated into future COVID-19 updates.

  • Salem added 6 new cases since yesterday, bringing our total to 2,873 Salem residents who have had confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Salem’s active cases decreased by 1 from yesterday to 47. Salem had 60 active cases one week ago.
  • Salem’s new cases per 100K residents is 280. Yesterday, it was 284. One week ago, it was 392. Today is the lowest since I started tracking this metric in mid-March.
  • Salem’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 4.9%, a “moderate” level of community transmission. Yesterday it was 4.4%. One week ago, it was 4.8%. 
  • Today the new cases “by math” (yesterday vs. today’s cumulative total of positive cases as reported by DHHS) were 271. NH reported 219 people have “recovered” since yesterday’s update. After allowing for those who lost their lives today because of COVID-19, NH’s number of active cases went up by 47 to 2,610 since yesterday. That’s 588 fewer active cases than we had a week ago. 
  • Today is the first day that NH’s active cases has increased in over a week.
  • NH has had 319.1 new cases per 100K residents in the past 14 days. Yesterday, it was 334.9. One week ago, it was 434.4.
  • NH’s positivity rate for PCR & antigen results in the past week is 3.7%. Yesterday it was 3.8%. One week ago, it was 5.0%.
  • NH’s positivity rate for PCR results returned today was not reported today. Yesterday it was 1.7%. A week ago, it was2.0%.
  • DHHS is reporting a total of 1,318 people who have been hospitalized as of today because of COVID-19. This is an increase of 7 people since yesterday’s update, and an increase of 18 since last week. There was 1 new hospitalization today from Rockingham County; our county’s total hospitalizations is 298.
  • The number of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 87 which is 3 more than yesterday, and is 21 less than a week ago. 
  • Today is the first day since April 18 that the number of patients currently hospitalized has increased.
  • Our hospitalizations have been under 100 since April 25. We ranged from 63-100 hospitalized patients from Feb 25 to April 7. Before that, the last time we were under 100 was November 19. There were 335 people hospitalized on January 2.
  • The cumulative total of ICU admissions has increased by 1 since yesterday, bringing the total to 391. We have seen an increase of 4 ICU admissions in the past seven days. 
  • There were 5 lives lost due to COVID-19 for the period covered by this report, bringing the total to 1301 people who have died in NH due to COVID-19. We have lost 20 people in NH due to COVID-19 in the past week. There were no lives lost today from Rockingham County; the total number of people who have died from our county is 247.

Rockingham (64), Merrimack (29), Strafford (26), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (24), Grafton (20), Cheshire (19), Carroll (13), Belknap (11), Coos (8), and Sullivan (7) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (35) and Nashua (19). The county of residence is being determined for twenty- three new cases.
