Unemployed

If the COVID-19 Pandemic has left you with employment issues, you are not alone. Businesses are struggling, and some are making the hard decision to close or make temporary or permanent changes to their staff. The FPUC payment of $600 per week has ended effective for the week ending Saturday, July 25, 2020. Unemployment numbers are on the rise.  It’s not easy out there.

Having gone through a forced retirement as the aftermath of the stockmarket crash of 2008, I can relate. I wished I had resources easily available back then. I didn’t know where to start.

I stumbled on the new portal from NH Employment Security today, and it brought back old memories. Coupled with today’s news about jobs failing,  I did a little research to find out what the other options are now available.

Here are some sources that might help.

National Labor Exchange

Employers can post job openings on the National Labor Exchange’s website, where potential employees can find learn more. At this writing, I see 303 job listing in Salem, although some appear to be duplicated. There are also many jobs in Massachusetts.

New Hampshire Job Search Portal

New Hampshire businesses are now able to reopen, but many are struggling to find employees. As part of the COVID-19 response, New Hampshire Employment Security (NHES) has developed the New Hampshire Job Search Portal

This site was launched last week, and now has over 1,200 full- and part-time workforce openings, primarily in long-term care facilities and manufacturing. In the greater Salem area (Salem, Windham, Derry, Londonderry, Atkinson and Plaistow), I find 54 jobs. (None in Hampstead or Pelham). There are 45 more in Nashua, and over 100 in Manchester.

Massachusetts COVID-19 Jobs & Hiring Portal

The Massachusetts equivalent to NHES seems to be https://www.mass.gov/topics/finding-a-job

I am far from an expert on this topic. If you have info that might help others, please let me know so I can share it with others. Thanks!
